David Caretto was elected to the City Council in November 2010, and was appointed in 2014 and 2018, and was selected as Mayor in December 2014 and December 2015, and once again in December 2020.
David also currently serves as Chairman of the Big Bear Fire Authority, and he serves on the Board of Directors of the Big Bear Area Regional Wastewater Agency (BBARWA), the Mountain Transit Board of Directors, and on the Board of the Big Bear Lake Fire Protection District.
Prior to those appointments, David served on the Big Bear Lake Planning Commission from 2006 to 2010 and held the position of Chairman from 2007 thru 2008. David has been a volunteer with various community organizations, including Rotary, the Bear Valley Community Hospital Foundation, Soroptimist, Discovery Center, and Lighthouse Project just to name a few.
During his 33-year professional career, David served as General Manager and Secretary for the South Orange County Wastewater Authority (SOCWA), as well as City Manager/City Clerk for the City of Irwindale, Assistant City Manager/City Clerk for the City of Pico Rivera, City Manager and Assistant City Manager for the City of Signal Hill, and Planning Technician for the City of Lynwood. He has been married to his wife Cindy for the last 41 years, and they have two grown children, Nick and Peter, both of whom are Army veterans of the Iraq war. He recently became a grandparent for the first time, with the birth of his granddaughter, Charlotte.
