Councilman Chuck Hicks is a resident of Big Bear Lake having purchased his home here in 2010. He was elected to the Big Bear Lake City Council on November 5, 2024. He is also an elected member of the Big Bear Airport Board of Directors. In addition, he is a practicing attorney in California specializing in estate planning, probate law, and aviation regulatory matters.

Chuck retired from a 29-year career with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) where he held several positions including Aviation Safety Inspector, Regulatory Training Program Manager, and Flight Standards Branch Manager. He served in the U.S. Air Force as an airborne electronic warfare technician, the Army National Guard as a fixed wing and helicopter pilot, and aeronautical engineering duty officer with the United States Naval Reserves.

Councilman Hicks has extensive involvement in community service such as his current work as a Los Angeles County Reserve Deputy Sheriff. He previously served for eight years as a Commissioner on the Long Beach Civil Service Commission, for three years on the Orange County Measure “M” Commission, two years on the Anaheim Union High School District Board of Directors, and volunteer attorney with the Orange County Public Law Center.

Chuck has earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Science and Technology, and a Juris Doctorate degree. He is a State Bar of California licensed attorney and is approved to practice law before the United States Federal Court’s Central District and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

He is also a member of the Big Bear Airport Pilot’s Association, the American Legion, and the Big Bear Valley Sportsman’s Club. He is married to Kathleen and is a grandfather to eight children.
