HEALTH INSURANCE

The City of Big Bear Lake contracts with Blue Cross of California and Kaiser Permanente for medical insurance.  Blue Cross currently offers two health plans for our eligible employees, a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plan, and a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan.

The City contracts with VSP to provide a voluntary plan to eligible employees.

BEREAVEMENT LEAVE

Employees shall be granted a leave of absence of 3 days (which shall be charged to the employee's sick leave), in the event of death of an immediate family member.

COMPUTER PURCHASE PROGRAM

All regular full-time City, Fire and DWP employees who have passed their probation period are eligible for this program.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION

The City provides all employees the opportunity to enroll in a Section 457 Deferred Compensation plan.  Deferred Compensation allows participants to defer a portion of their salary, pretax for investment purposes.  The City currently offers the following plans: ICMA Retirement Corporation; Lincoln Financial; National Deferred/USCM; Nationwide Retirement Solutions.

EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

We are very fortunate to have an employee assistance program through EAP Consultants, Inc.  They offer professional, confidential counseling and consultation. 

FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNT

The City’s Section 125 Flexible Spending Plan for out-of-pocket Health related expenses and Dependent Care cost is currently administered by Total Administrative Services Corporation (TASC).  This plan allows employees to redirect a portion of their salaries to pay for the expenses on a pre-tax basis.  Visit their website at:  www.accesstasc.com

All employees in regular positions shall be entitled to the following fixed holidays:

JURY DUTY

The City provides a two-week limit on salaries paid to employees while serving on Jury Duty.

LIFE INSURANCE (CITY PAID)

The City provides $25,000 of life insurance coverage for employees through Blue Cross.

City of Big Bear Lake offers the opportunity to purchase Assurant Voluntary Group Term Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) coverage.

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY EMPLOYEES’ RETIREMENT ASSOCIATION

The City contracts with San Bernardino County Employees’ Retirement Association for retirement benefits.

SICK LEAVE

Employees shall accrue sick leave credit at the rate of eleven (11) days per year.  Unused sick leave may be accrued without limit.
